Seasonal change is wonderful in everyday life. What would happen if you adapted that notion in your business?
Changes you make in your homes during the seasonal change are easy and usually thought out beforehand. You may have a bucket in the attic labeled “Fall” or “Christmas Decore”. Each year it’s like a time capsule going through all the things. The smiles and memories are enough to change your mood. Imagine if you used this same concept in your businesses.
What to Swap?
Easy swaps can be adding a seasonal border to your logo. For example, you can change the color of your typography to a warmer tone for Fall or add a poinsettia for a holiday nod. Simple color changes help ease customers into the season with your brand in mind and as a result, creates a nostalgic connection. Plan out your content calendar to take photos in seasonal attire. However, if a new photo shoot isn’t in budget, find stock images that reflect the season. Sweaters, candles, and baked goods are all seasonal reminders that gives us a new sense of comfort toward the end of the year. Include your websites. Making sure everything is cohesive helps retain your brand awareness.
Yes, Your Products and Services Do Align
One thing that I like to do is add bucket list items in my newsletters. Yes, you are a business with products to sell, but you are human and have lives. Don’t forget your storytelling. Do your products or services align with seasonal bucket list items? For instance, you’re a clothing brand with hoodies or jackets. Can we wear your jackets while we go apple picking in the fall? Or are your hand-knitted scarves and hats going to keep us warm during our ice skating adventures this winter? Indeed, we can, and they will. You have to think outside the box.
Real World Examples
Some quick examples would be Starbucks. Every year they offer holiday cups to join in on the festivities. This works, in fact you may have gone to the coffee chain to treat yourself to a Venti Chia just to get a holiday cup. Neiman Marcus has added twinkle stars to their website title and a coupon pop up with a Holiday photo to greet you. Finally, various restaurant chains have many changes that include a signature dish just for the cozy season. The ideas are endless.
Now, that your ideas are certainly churning, put some to the test. Good luck. I’ll be reading your stories.
